SUSPECT ARRESTED IN STABBING DEATH IN SEASIDE

Early Monday morning (4:53 a.m.) Seaside Police responded to a report of a man stabbed at 385 18th  Ave. The first officer on the scene found a female in the street who reported that she woke up next to her boyfriend with her son stabbing him. She fled the residence and contacted police by cell phone.

The first officer on the scene saw movement inside the residence and immediately set up a perimeter. Additional officers responded from Clatsop County Sheriffs Office, Cannon Beach, Gearhart, and Warrenton to assist. A Seaside hostage negotiator attempted to make contact but could get no response from inside the residence. Once additional officers arrived at the scene, the residence was entered and no suspect was found at the scene. Officers discovered the body of a forty-three year old male in the main bedroom. The identification of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Gearhart Police made contact at the 3200 block of HWY 101 North, the last known address of the suspect. Officers learned that the suspect had returned to the apartment around 6:30 a.m., gathered some items and left the area on foot. At approximately 7:00 a.m. officers spotted the suspect walking southbound on foot near 12th Avenue. He was taken into custody without incident at the bus stop just north of 12th Avenue and Roosevelt.

Officers are awaiting the arrival of the Oregon State Patrol Crime Lab to assist in processing the scene and detectives from the Clatsop County Major Crime Team are conducting interviews with the suspect and potential witnesses.

More information will be released as the investigation continues.
