FOOT CHASE ENDS IN ARREST

Sunday afternoon at approximately 1:15 p.m. a Seaside Officer observe Scott A McKinnon, age 28 of Seaside driving a blue Mazda Miata Convertible eastbound on 1st Avenue by the Convention Center. He knew Mr. McKinnon to be a suspended driver and turned to stop the vehicle. McKinnon fled through the parking lot of Holiday Inn Express and as it came to the end of the parking lot, the driver slammed on his breaks and ran westbound from the vehicle towards the river. The officer gave chase and with the help of citizens in the area was able to locate McKinnon inside Harrison’s Bakery.

When the officer made contact, McKinnon was stuffing something in the seat cushion in one of the booths. When the office tried to make the arrest, McKinnon resisted by running out the front door. The officer was able to catch him and take him into custody a short distance away.

When McKinnon was taken into custody, he was found with an empty handgun holster and magazine. During the foot pursuit, it appears McKinnon may have thrown something into the Nicanicum River as he fled. McKinnon is currently being held in the Clatsop County Jail charged with Fugitive from Justice, Eluding, Resisting Arrest, Possession of Controlled Substance (PCS), and additional charges are pending.

The Seaside Police Department is asking that anyone who may have been in the area Sunday afternoon and observed someone throwing something in the river, to please contact Officer Cook at 738-6311.
