NEWS RELEASE
SEASIDE POLICE
RECEIVE TWO GRANTS
The Seaside Police Department announces it has recently
received grant funding to provide a bicycle safety program and funding to
reduce underage drinking in Seaside.
The Community Cycling Center (CCC) notified the Seaside
Police that they have been awarded $2,532 through their 2007 Bicycle Safety
Mini-Grant program. This grant will help to provide two Bicycle Safety Rodeos
in Seaside and is in partnership with Sunset
Empire Park & Recreation and Safe
Kids North
Coast. The Bicycle Safety
Rodeos are scheduled for May 13th and again on September 9th. The training will
include bicycle inspection, education, skills course, prizes and an organized
ride for different age groups. Helmets will also be inspected and new helmets
provided free for those helmets needing to be replaced or for kids without
helmets. Watch for more information in April.
Seaside Police also received at $15,000 from the Pacific
Institute for Research and Evaluation to reduce underage drinking in Seaside. The grant will
provide for training on minor decoy operations, shoulder tap operations, and
controlled party dispersal. The training is scheduled for April 12th
at the Clatsop Community College South Annex in Seaside and is open to other law enforcement
agencies in our region. The grant also provides funding for overtime to conduct
traffic emphasis operations and under cover operations looking for underage
drinking. The first planned activity will be a Minor Decoy operation during
Spring Break to ensure businesses selling alcohol are asking for proper
identification from patrons. Seaside Police will continue to be a part of the
Clatsop County Reduce Underage Drinking Task Force that provides coordinated
education and enforcement throughout Clatsop
County.
The Seaside Police Department is pleased to have received
these grants and looks forward to providing bicycle safety training for kids
and continuing its efforts in reducing underage drinking in Seaside.
