SEASIDE BICYCLE
SAFETY RODEO FILLED WITH FUN, SAFETY, & PRIZES
Saturday morning was a day for kids to learn about bicycle
safety, test their skills, and win prizes in Seaside during our first Bicycle Safety
Rodeo. Twenty-five kids from Gearhart, Cannon
Beach, and Seaside started their morning having their
bicycle and helmet inspected before going over bicycle rules of the road and
safety. Then they were off to the skills course designed to test their skills
and use the rules of the road they just learned. After completing the course,
most of the kids enjoyed a fun ride through the neighborhood to reinforce what
they had learned.
Following all the activity, each participant left with a
prize and two lucky children left with a brand new bicycle. Seven year-old Magnus
McWilliams of Seaside and nine year-old Hannah
Robbins of Cannon
Beach were the lucky
winners of the two new bicycles sponsored by Seaside Kiwanis and Seaside Police
Association through the Prom Bike & Hobby Shop. The day concluded with a
free swim compliments of Sunset Empire Park & Recreation.
The Bicycle Safety Rodeo was made possible through a grant
from Community Cycling and ODOT and through a partnership with Sunset Empire
Park & Recreation, Safe
Kids North
Coast and the Seaside
Police Department. A big THANK YOU to all the volunteers from all the
organizations who helped make the rodeo possible. If you missed this one, then
mark your calendars for Saturday September 8th so you won’t miss the
next one.
